We have a small but spacious open plan room split into two areas. One area is for babies and the other for pre-schoolers
The baby room is for children aged 3 months to 2 years. The ratio in this room is 1 adult for 3 babies in accordance with the statutory framework. We have space for just six babies each day. This enables us to create a personal, home from home environment and to give individual care and attention.
The individual care and routine of each baby is discussed with parents and we will follow parents wishes.
The room has an assortment of natural, sensory resources for babies to explore. Activities are planned each day including messy and creative activities. Babies access our lovely outdoor area daily.
We create a calm and tranquil atmosphere for sleep times, ensuring children are supervised at all times and staff are there to settle and comfort children as necessary.
Each child is provided with their own nursery bag for their belongings such as nappies, wipes, spare clothes etc.
We ask that parents provide formula milk or we have facilities to store breast milk.
In 2019 the team took part in 'The Baby Room Project' training. This is a highly respected programme which focuses on the very early stages of babies' lives. As a result of this training, we made adaptations to the room and the resources to reflect current best practice.
We have redesigned our baby room to have high contrast using block patterns and high contrast colours of black, white and red. This stimulates babies and helps to develop their brain and eye sight. It can also help with developing attention and calming babies
